Abstract

An antimony germanate (Sb 2 Ge 3 O 9 ) was synthesized under mild solvothermal condition. Organic amine did not incorporate into the structure, although they are used and necessary in synthesis. The structure of this compound can be described as antimony germanate layers constructed from vertex-sharing GeO 4 tetrahedra and SbO 3 trigonal pyramid. The linkage of 3-rings and 9-rings forms an infinite sheet in crystallographic ab plane. The layer stacking together with only van der Waals force between layers. This work open possibilities for synthesizing other antimony germanate with novel structure topologies, since polyhedra such as [SbX 3 ], [SbX 4 ], [SbX 5 ] and [SbX 6 ] (X=O or F) can be formed.
