Abstract

The paper examines the historical and literary characteristics of mul "wine" in Persian poetry. Unlike may, which is a wide-spread term denoting "wine" in New Persian, mul is never employed in the writings of many outstanding representatives of Persian poetry—from the early period until Rūdakī and Daqīqī. The first occurrences of this lexeme are attested in the Shahnameh by Firdousū.
