Evolving Man, Evolving Social Animal

In Chap. 2 and the two preceding Addenda, I sketched out a brief evolutionary history of mankind including aspects of the origins of language and the more specialised and supportive functions of pre-frontal cortex in conferring ability to read others’ minds (Theory of Mind) and to provide the neural foundations for a moral attitude essential, in my view, for any serious apprehension of divinity and what that entails in terms of personal behaviour. That provides a working framework on which to evaluate the advent of more recent modern humans, together with their associated cultural growth and achievements.
