Abstract: This chapter introduces quantitative methods for the analysis of word meaning, covering vector space models and the main concepts of distributional semantics. It presents a series of case studies illustrating the application of these techniques to real-world research questions, including analysis of Medical Officer of Health reports for London and changes in meaning of English words over the past two decades from the UK Web Archive.
