Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze in how far a consistent strategy can be developed using methane along the path from existing fossil fuel supply towards a sustainable energy supply infrastracture including fuel cells. This is the first of a three part analysis of the options for natual gas and methaner and the fuel cell technology as part of a closed cycle infrastructure. The transport sector is an important energy consumer and the impact of a methane infrastructure and the ongoing fuel cell development will be analyzed in a following paper. The impact of the population development and its challenges for such a roadmap will described in a third paper.
