Abstract
- Anorectal surgery requires deep anesthesia since this region of the body has a dense sensory nerve supply and is highly reflexogenic. Surgical procedures under light planes of anesthesia will result in intense pain, reflexive body movements, tachypnea, and even laryngeal spasm. Deep anesthesia for anorectal procedures can be achieved using different forms of anesthesia including general endotracheal, regional, or local anesthesia; local anesthesia is generally administered in conjunction with general sedation.
