Abstract

The finite-temperature Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov cranking equation is solved for /sup 166/Er. Increasing the temperature at fixed angular momentum produces a phase transition from a prolate shape rotating collectively to an oblate shape ''rotating'' noncollectively around a symmetry axis. The critical temperature for this shape transition is spin dependent.
