Studies on Dithiocarbamates : Part XI. Solvolysis of 3-Benzyl-5-Phenylazorhodanine

Solvolysis of the titled compound was examined under various conditions. Rate coefficients at constant pH (- 11·0) are strongly dependent on the nature of medium. Observed data could be reconciled by taking a number of solvent parameters, in particular, the pKa of the solvent was found to be the roost important factor. The discrepancy between observed and calculated rates is maximum when the solvent to water ratio is 1 : 3 (mole).
