Abstract
- During the 16 years after a massive post-partum hemorrhage attended by coma, a patient had only occasional menses but went through three uneventful pregnancies. In the fourth month of her fourth pregnancy, there were both clinical and laboratory features of decreased thyroidal and adrenal function, which improved on hormonal replacement therapy. Tests done three months after delivery revealed decreased pituitary secretory capacity for ACTH, TSH and growth hormone. Although some pituitary-function tests may be contraindicated or unreliable in pregnancy, partial pituitary deficiency may be recognized and treated appropriately.
