Functions of the proteasome in antigen presentation

Recent studies using selective inhibitors of the proteasome have established that these particles catalyze the degradation of most proteins in mammalian cells, including both the rapid breakdown of abnormal and regulatory proteins and the slower degradation of the bulk of cytosolic proteins.
