Technology and caring in intensive care units

Para comprender el contexto actual del cuidado y el arte de cuidar en un mundo tecnológico como las Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos (UCI), es necesario revisar y reflexionar sobre diferentes momentos históricos, la comprensión del desarrollo cultural y tecnológico relacionado con los nuevos conceptos sobre el cuidado y la tecnología dentro de las UCI. Con el avance tecnológico y de las maneras de cuidar, creemos que la atención recibida en las UCI sufrirá cambios importantes en las próximas décadas, afectando la gestión de la atención y la salud. Es necesario que la enfermería desarrolle tecnologías leves/duras, para mantener la calidad de la atención, la seguridad del paciente y optimizar la atención. Por lo tanto, debemos reconocer nuestro compromiso como profesionales y hacer que la tecnología sea un medio y no un fin, porque la finalidad de la atención es satisfacer las necesidades de los seres humanos. To understand the current context of care and the art of caring in a technological world as the Intensive Care Units (ICU), we need to review and reflect on the different historical moments, understand the cultural and technological developments that relate to the new concepts on caring and technology within ICUs. With technological advancement and the ways to care, we believe that the care provided in ICUs should undergo major changes in the coming decades, impacting the management and nursing care and health. It is necessary that Nursing develops hard light and light technologies, so that we may keep the quality on caring, the security of the patient and optimize caring. Thus, we must recognize our commitment as professionals and make technology as a mean and not an end, for the purpose of care is to meet the needs of human beings.
