Abstract

This article aims to stress the role of banks in the transmission of financial shocks, through the "Bank Capital Channel". The article begins by providing a synthesis of the numerous contributions which study the main feature of this channel - the link between capital and lending. Then, an empirical analysis reveals its manifestation at the beginning of the 2000s, in the United States. Lastly, normative considerations for monetary and pruden- tial policies are put forward in the conclusion.
