Abstract

Any surgeon who treats anal fistula must balance the proposed surgical procedure with the risk to anal continence. Sphincter cutting procedures lead to the highest healing rates, but with the increased risk of anal continence impairment and deformity [1,2]. Several sphincter-sparing techniques have been introduced but these lead to lower healing rates [2].
