Spinocerebellar ataxia type 1 and familial spontaneous pneumothorax

Abstract: We report two siblings with spinocerebellar ataxia type 1 (SCA1) who experienced frequent episodes of spontaneous pneumothorax. Radiologic findings indicated underlying degenerative changes in the lungs. This suggests a possible pathophysiologic relationship between SCA1 and familial occurrence of spontaneous pneumothorax.
