Evidence of a sire effect on piglet mortality

SUMMARY The progeny of two related boars on neighbouring farms had significantly higher rates of mortality possibly associated with Escherichia coli infection when compared with the progeny of the contemporary boars. The genetic interpretation of these findings is discussed.
