Abstract

American foulbrood as a dangerous infection, is compulsory notifiable (Act of the Slovak National Council No 39/2007 Coll. on veterinary care) and one of the most common disease of bees worldwide. In the world of the American foulbrood is radically solves some countries (EU, Australia, New Zealand), but some countries also use the antibiotics and sulfonamides (USA, Canada, South America, Asia) in the prevention and treatment of this devastating disease of bees. Using these products is a risk of residues in honey and risk for consumers. Because the incidence of American foulbrood is high in countries neighboring Slovak Republic, as well as outside the EU (such as Ukraine), it is necessary to have not only developed the National Programme for the Eradication of American foulbrood in Slovakia, but also it is necessary to perform risk analysis and develop risk assessment of American foulbrood. Risk assessment of American foulbrood is important to evaluate of health risk (the impact on the population of bees in Slovakia), as well as to evaluate environmental risk (rapid decrease of pollination of plants thereby reducing crop yields per hectare). To develop a risk assessment is important to use of existing international or communitarian guide for risk assessment.<br />SK; sk; efsa.focalpoint@land.gov.sk
