Abstract

41. * Eugenia liebmannii Standley, Contr. U.S. Natl. Herb. 23: 1044 (1924) EOO: 125,358.664 km ². AOO: 28 km ². Evaluation of IUCN: Least Concern. Eugenia liebmannii is distributed in the Gulf region, northwest and southeast of Mexico, in the states of Veracruz, Tamaulipas, Querétaro and Chiapas, from 0 to 1,270 m elev. The estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) exceeds the thresholds for a threatened category under the criterion B, whilst the estimated area of occupancy (AOO) falls into the thresholds of Endangered category under the criterion B, but it would probably exceed the thresholds of this category if the remaining habitat available is taken in account. In the Mexican territory it is known only in the Humid Montane Forest and Humid Tropical Forest biomes. Seven records were found, located mainly in important conservation areas for Mexico’s biodiversity, such as the “Reserva de la Biosfera Sierra Gorda”, in Querétaro, and close to the “Reserva de la Biosfera Sierra de Tamaulipas ”, in Tamaulipas, well-preserved regions (CONABIO 2018, INE-SEMARNAP 1999d, DOF 2016). As it presents more than ten know locations and the species occurs within the protected area network, Eugenia liebmannii is classified as Least Concern (LC). Specimens examined:— MEXICO. Chiapas: Najarro 2075a (MEXU!); Querétaro: Servin 681 (MEXU!); Tamaulipas: Patterson & Mayfield 7319 (MEXU!); Veracruz: Acosta 2860 (MEXU!).
Published as part of Uc Gala, Victor C., Valdemarin, Karinne Sampaio, Lucas, Eve, Negrão, Raquel & Mazine, Fiorella F., 2023, Eugenia (Myrtaceae) from Mexico: checklist, distribution, and conservation assessments, pp. 99-140 in Phytotaxa 583 (2) on page 116, DOI: 10.11646/phytotaxa.583.2.1, http://zenodo.org/record/7609258
{"references":["CONABIO (2018) Indice de degradacion ecologica (IDE) por municipios, escala: 1: 250000. 1 ed.
