Abstract
- On February 28, when Richard “Dick” Hanson succumbed, after a protracted battle, to cancer at the age of 78, the world lost a truly remarkable scientist, artist, educator, and leader, and I lost a great friend and kindred spirit. His impressive list of accomplishments and the well-deserved recognition he received in his more-than-50-year career do not do justice to the tremendous impact he had on students, colleagues, and friends alike, and the positive effects of his legacy will continue to be felt by many succeeding generations for a long time to come.
