Abstract

This experimental investigation evaluates the durability of GFRP tubular composites filled with marine resource-based ultra-high-performance concrete under combined sustained loading and seawater exposure at an elevated temperature. Material properties of the FRPs with different diameter to thickness ratio were determined in both longitudinal and hoop directions. Creep strains were monitored in both directions for 2000 hours, and a comprehensive analysis was conducted on the axial compressive stress-strain response, stiffness, and failure modes of unconditioned and conditioned composite specimens. GFRP composites exhibited larger creep strains in hoop direction, which were exacerbated due to swelling in long-term seawater exposure. The GFRP confining tube, with a lower diameter-to-thickness ratio and higher confining pressure, exhibited improved confinement, increased strength and stiffness, and comparable rupture strain after the combined conditioning process.<br />Paper 30
