Abstract

28. Eugenia gaumeri Standley, Publ. Field Columb. Mus., Bot. Ser. 8: 28 (1930) EOO: 236,182.716 km ². AOO: 220 km ². Evaluation of IUCN: Least Concern. Eugenia gaumeri has a wide distribution in the American continent, that extends from the southeast of Mexico and in some Central American countries (WCSP 2020). In the Mexican territory the species is known only in the biomes of Humid and Dry Tropical Forests, being found at 0 to 900 m elev. The estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) exceeds the thresholds for a threatened category under the criterion B. The area of occupancy (AOO) would likely exceed the thresholds of any threatened category when the remaining habitat available is taken in account. There are more than 10 known locations based on 107 records distributed from Mexico (Yucatán Peninsula) to Belize and Guatemala, occurring in different tropical rainforest protection reserves such as the Maya Biosphere Reserve, El Mirador National Park, Calakmul Biosphere Reserve and Sian Ka´an (CONABIO 2018, INE-SEMARNAP 1999a, CONANP 2001, CONANP 2014). According to the recent assessment by BGCI & IUCN (2019e), E. gaumeri is classified as Least Concern (LC). Specimens examined:— MEXICO. Campeche: Cabrera & Sanul 5095 (MEXU!); Chiapas: Martínez 2654 (MEXU!); Quintana Roo: Cabrera & Cabrera 2499 (MEXU!); Yucatán: Gaumer 23984 (K!). Belize: Croat 24978 (MO); Guatemala: Contreras 8388 (LL).
Published as part of Uc Gala, Victor C., Valdemarin, Karinne Sampaio, Lucas, Eve, Negrão, Raquel & Mazine, Fiorella F., 2023, Eugenia (Myrtaceae) from Mexico: checklist, distribution, and conservation assessments, pp. 99-140 in Phytotaxa 583 (2) on pages 111-112, DOI: 10.11646/phytotaxa.583.2.1, http://zenodo.org/record/7609258
{"references":["WCSP (World Checklist of Selected Plant Families) (2020) Myrtaceae.
