Academic remote leadership in the time of COVID-19 – job demands experienced by supervisorsThe COVID-19 pandemic made many supervisors suddenly remote leaders, thus forcing them to adapt to a new way of working. Little is yet known about how they worked and how they experienced remote leadership. The study aims to analyze the experiences of 233 supervisors in the spring of 2021 with a focus on the demands of supervisors’ work during the corona pandemic. Through qualitative content analysis, four types of hindrance and challenge demands were identified from the supervisors’ writings. The demands were related to organizational functioning, work, social relationships, and well-being at work. The results showed that the supervisors felt they did not receive the support they would have needed, their workload have increased, the nature of social interactions changed, and the requirements of remote leadership for well- being at work were emphasized.
