Heroism Perception in Turkish Culture and Heroism Perception of Social Sciences High School Students

Türk tarihi incelendiğinde birçok kahramanlık destanının olduğu ifade edilebilir. Türk kültüründe kahramanlık ve kahraman bireyin özellikleri büyük bir öneme sahiptir. Türk tarihi ve kültürünün, Türk tarihindeki kahramanlıkların en iyi şekilde algılanabilmesi, Türk kültürünün korunması açısından büyük bir öneme sahiptir. Dolayısıyla kahramanlık ve kahramanlıkla ilgili kavramların nesillere doğru şekilde aktarımı gerekmektedir. Bireyin öğrendiği şekilde öğretme eğilimi olduğundan ve bir konuya ilişkin bilişsel yapısı, o konuya yönelik algısını temsil ettiğinden Türk tarihine yönelik eğitim alan ve gelecekte Türk tarihine ilişkin eğitim vermeye ilişkin sorumluluk üstlenebilecek olan Sosyal Bilimler Lisesi öğrencilerinin kahramanlık ve kahramanlıkla ilgili kavramlara yönelik bilişsel yapılarının tespit edilmesi önemlidir. Bu araştırmada, Sosyal Bilimler Lisesi öğrencilerinin kahramanlık ve kahramanlıkla ilgili kavramlara ilişkin bilişsel yapılarının belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada genel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Veriler, araştırmacılar tarafından oluşturulan, kahramanlık, sabır, cesaret, umut, zafer, vatan, ahlak, namus, azim, asker, destan ve şehit kelimelerini içeren Kelime İlişkilendirme Testi aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Çalışma grubu, Orta Karadeniz Bölgesi’ndeki bir Sosyal Bilimler Lisesi’nde 12. sınıf düzeyinde öğrenim görmekte olan 64 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Elde edilen verilerin betimsel analizi sonucunda, Sosyal Bilimler Lisesi öğrencilerinin Atatürk ve Türk askerinin kahramanlık vasıflarını taşıdığına, kahramanlığın cesaret gerektirdiğine ve şehitlik mertebesine erişenlerin kahraman olduğuna ilişkin güçlü bir bilişsel yapıya sahip oldukları ifade edilebilir. Sosyal Bilimler Lisesi öğrencilerinin Türk kültüründe yer alan kahramanlık özelliklerini kavrayabileceği şekilde eğitim verilmesi önerilmektedir.
When Turkish history is examined, it can be stated that there are many heroic epics. In Turkish culture, heroism and the characteristics of the heroic individual have a great importance. Being able to perceive Turkish history and culture and the heroism in Turkish history in the best way is of great importance for the preservation of Turkish culture. Therefore, it is necessary to transfer the concepts of heroism and heroism to the generations correctly. Since the individual has a tendency to teach as he learns, and his cognitive structure about a subject represents his perception of that subject, it is important to determine the cognitive structures of the concepts of heroism and heroism of the Social Sciences High School students who receive education on Turkish history and who can take responsibility for teaching Turkish history in the future. In this study, it was aimed to determine the cognitive structures of the Social Sciences High School students related to the concepts of heroism and heroism. General scanning model was used in the research. The data were collected through the Word Association Test, which includes the words heroism, patience, courage, hope, victory, homeland, morality, honor, perseverance, soldier, epic and martyr. The study group consists of 64 students studying at the 12th grade in a Social Sciences High School in the Central Black Sea Region. As a result of the descriptive analysis of the data obtained, it can be stated that the students of the Social Sciences High School have a strong cognitive structure that Ataturk and Turkish soldiers have heroic qualities, that heroism requires courage and those who reach the rank of martyrdom are heroes. It is recommended that Social Sciences High School students can comprehend the heroic characteristics of Turkish culture.
