Initial Results from Fluor's CO2 Capture Demonstration Plant Using Econamine FG PlusSM Technology at E.ON Kraftwerke's Wilhelmshaven Power Plant

Abstract

Fluor and E.ON have built a carbon dioxide recovery pilot plant using Fluor's proprietary Econamine FG PlusSM technology at E.ON's hard coal power plant in Wilhelmshaven, Germany. The capture plant is designed to recover approximately 70 Te/d of CO2 and will be used for data collection to facilitate scaling the design to a full sized coal power plant. The pilot plant has the configuration of a full size plant, including several technology improvements. The CO2 capture plant design includes technology advancements that are expected to lower energy demand, reduce costs, and improve the environmental signature of CO2 capture plant. The paper summarizes the technological advancements and initial results from the commissioning of the capture unit.
