Abstract

Aequatoria Arrow, 1899: 364 Type species. Chlorota associata Waterhouse, 1881: 553, original designation by Arrow 1899: 364. Remarks. Soula (1998: 99) subsequently designated Macraspis pretiosa Brême, 1844: 303–304 as the type species of the genus Aequatoria. This is invalid based on ICZN Article 68.2. Arrow (1899: 364) originally designated Chlorota associata as the type of Aequatoria. Chlorota associata was an originally included nominal species of Aequatoria and Arrow’s (1899) designation satisfies ICZN Article 68.2. Soula’s (1998) designation of Macraspis pretiosa also violated ICZN Article 67.2, which states that the type of a genus must be an originally included nominal species. Macraspis pretiosa was not an originally included nominal species of Aequatoria.
Published as part of Moore, Matthew Robert, Jameson, Mary Liz & Paucar-Cabrera, Aura, 2014, Taxonomic and nomenclatural changes in the anticheirine scarabs (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Rutelinae: Rutelini), pp. 1-20 in Insecta Mundi 2014 (392) on page 4, DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.5179722
{"references":["Arrow, G.
