Abstract: The collection of a single specimen of the Guinean puffer Sphoeroides marmoratus from the Ionian Sea in September 1977, misidentified at that time as Lagocephalus lagocephalus, shows that this subtropical species of fish has occurred in the Mediterranean Sea from 30 years ago.
