Abstract
- 15. Lamourouxia ovata Martens & Galeotti. Bull.Acad. Roy. Sci. Bruxelles 12(2): 33[–34]. 1845. Lectotype designated here:— MEXICO, dans les montagnes calcaires de Zeta, prés de Sola (Sud d’Oaxaca), 8000 pieds, H.G. Galeotti 989 (Lectotype: BR0000005424054!; isolectotype: G00356753!) Figure 11 A–C. Herbs ca. 100 cm tall, stems branched along the plant, reclining, herbaceous, pubescent non-glandular. Leaves sessile, broadly ovate, 33–80 × 22–46 mm, margin doubly serrate or crenate, 25–31 teeth per side, teeth 0.8–3.9 mm long; apex obtuse, base cordate; membranous, pubescent, non-glandular. Inflorescence a raceme with inverted flowers, arching forward, pedicels thin. Bracts equal along inflorescence, sessile, orbicular to broadly elliptic, 14.2–34 × 6.7–24 mm, margin dentate to doubly serrate, 9–22 teeth per side, apex obtuse, base rounded. Calyx campanulate without dots on the surface, 12–20 × 3–10 mm, lobes ovate to broadly spatulate, 5.6–15 × 5–9 mm, margin entire, sometimes lacerate, apex acute to obcordate, pubescent, non-glandular. Corolla funnelform, 40–42 × 10–11 mm, upper lip 9–13 × 4–7.5 mm, lower lip 8–11.2 × 2.3 mm, lobes 4.5–6 × 2.4–4 mm; orange to red, pubescent non-glandular. Stamens exserted 4, filaments 19–26 mm long, anthers 2.4–3 mm long. Style 22.3–28.8 × 0.8 mm, stigma bilobed, 1.3–1.8 × 0.5–0.6 mm. Fruit and seeds not seen. Etymology: —The name of this species recalls the shape of its bracts. Distribution and habitat: —The species is endemic from Mexico. Herbarium specimens from the states of Chiapas and Oaxaca were revised. However, the species was photographed in the State of Mexico (https://www. naturalista.mx/observations/38248282) (Fig. 11A). It can be found in the cloud forest and pine and oak forests at elevations from 2195 to 2400 m. Phenology: —Flowers of this species were collected from August to February. Fruits are unknown. Nomenclatural notes: — Lamourouxia ovata was described by Martens & Galeotti (1845) citing the specimen Galeotti 989. Robinson and Greenman (1895) in the synopsis of the genus revised two specimens and cited the same specimen of the original description. Ernst (1972) cited the same collection with duplicates in BR and G as types, without lectotypification. Here, as part of the taxonomic revision, were consulted both specimens, being selected the specimen BR0000005424054! because it contains two branches with ten flowers and entire bracts in contrast to the specimen G00356753!, with one small branch with tree flowers and six bracts. Examined specimens: — MEXICO. Chiapas: Motozintla, road from Motozintla to Siltepec, SE of Siltepec, 10 February 1990, Stafford et al. 401 (MEXU!). Oaxaca: Oaxaca de Juárez, Cerro San Felipe, 18 October 1908, Conzatti 2273 (MEXU!). Santa Catarina Ixtepeji, oak Woods Sierra de San Felipe, 04 August 1984, Pringle 4762 (MEXU!, US!). Santa María Ecatepec, 3 km W of Santo Tomas Teipan along road from Santa Maria Ecatepec to Santo Domingo Chontelomtlan, 24 October 1986, Breedlove 65389 (NY!).
Published as part of Francisco-Gutiérrez, Antonio, Ruiz-Sanchez, Eduardo, González, Dolores & Lira-Noriega, Andrés, 2023, Lamourouxia (Orobanchaceae) of Mexico, pp. 1921-1935 in Phytotaxa 582 (1) on pages 1921-1935, DOI: 10.11646/phytotaxa.582.1.1, http://zenodo.org/record/7609060
{"references":["Martens, M. & Galeotti, H.
