Abstract

For the analysis of complex multi-layered networks, often the evaluation of simulation tools is needed. Different simulation tools provide different Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) layer capabilities. Some of the tools might be integrated with others for detailed system analysis. In this work, we first provide a comprehensive review of some important tools for the satellite-terrestrial networks. We highlight the benefits and disadvantages of each simulation tool. Moreover, we provide a use case scenario that is analysed using a combination of tools. Conclusions on how the combined simulation tools can be treated in the contexts of multi-layered networks are provided.
