Use of Teflon pledgets in esophageal anastomoses

Reinforcement of the outer layer of esophageal anastomoses with Teflon pledgets may play a part in the prevention of anastomotic leaks. This method was used successfully in four patients with esophagogastric cancer who underwent resection.
