Le peuplement du grand Sud-Ouest en 1990 : dynamismes et recomposition territoriale

The population of the Greater Sud-Ouest in France in 1990 : demographic trends and territorial reappraisal. The Greater Sud-Ouest consists in three regions : Aquitaine, Midi-Pyrénées, Languedoc-Roussilon, which can be considered as a whole as a possible junction area with Spain and Portugal in the frame of the European common market. The population density and the ratio of urban population of this great region are much lower than the european averages. The French population census has demonstrated that this region is quite homogeneous, with a very limited influence of the births and deaths balance, a marked increase of the proportion of older people and a large continued inflow of migrants though the proportion of foreigners has decreased. Large valleys and coastal areas still attract a growing number of inhabitants. Nevertheless the 1982-1990 period was characterized by a marked move towards a new spatial distribution of population : when population decreased in the central cores of most urban areas, many of these were enlarged due to a general exurbanization trend illustrated by the urban population increase in their rural fringes.
La población del Gran Suroeste de Francia en 1990, tendencias y distribución espacial. El Grand Suroeste comprende tres regiones : Aquitaine, Midi-Pyrénées, Languedoc-Roussillon. Los datos estructurales del censo de población de 1990 muestran una gran homogeneidad interregional y un perfil que agudiza las tendencias nacionales : estabilidad del movimiento natural, envejecimiento, dinamismo demográfico resultante de las migraciones. La originalidad del período 1982-1990 reside en la importancia del movimiento de recomposición espacial : descendo de la población de los centros urbanos, aumento de la de las zonas periurbanas.
