Abstract

Background: Heterozygous mutations in the glucocer-ebrosidase gene lead to an increased risk for and tomore severe alpha-synuclein-associated pathology inParkinson’s disease. As both glucocerebrosidase andalpha-synuclein interact with fatty acids, we hypothe-sized that cerebrospinal fluid fatty acid levelsare altered in these Parkinson’s disease patients.Methods: Cerebrospinal fluid levels of 13 fatty acids in8 Parkinson’s disease patients with a heterozygousglucocerebrosidase mutation were compared withthose of 41 idiopathic Parkinson’s disease patients and ------------------------------------------------------------ Additional Supporting Information may be found in the online version ofthis article.Stefan P.
