Desarrollo científico de las Ciencias Sociales en México; análisis bibliométrico del período 1997-2006: Social Science Citation Index (SSCI-ISI) y CiteSpace

Abstract

In this work are presented the results of a research which was made in the Social Science Area in Mexico in the period 1997-2006, to learn some important features such as its historical development and scientific productivity (R & D) through the volume of documents generated, language of publication, the productivity index chronologically, thematically and by state, the patterns of authorship, and national and international co-authorship, citation and co-citation between publications, institutions and sub-disciplines in science (research fronts), among others, for this purpose using the technique of documentary research: bibliometric analysis. For the use of unidimensional and multidimensional bibliometric indicators of the scientific activity, was taken as a source data base of the Social Science Citation Index from the publisher Insititute for Scientific Information (SCCI-ISI) from 3.125 records were obtained for the scientific production of 1997-2006. It was used the bibliométric analysis module of the SCCI-ISI and the CiteSpace program created by Chaomei Chen professor of the Drexel University, U.S.A. The scientific production in Social Sciences in the studied period represented 8% of the total of the Mexican production, in Humanities was obtained the 1,50% and in Applied Sciences was reached 90,5%, according to estimations made through the Citation Index data bases of the ISI.
