Study about the Montcada family, one of the upper class of Barcelona’s society in the XIIIth century. His origin problem is no entirely resolved: one part belongs to the nobility catalan group, the second one takes part of urban citizens group and is member of the government of the city. There is a special relationship between Berenguer, one man of this lineage, and Alphonse X the Sage, king of Castile, whose protection allowns him to have land properties in Murcia, Cartagena, Sevilla and Carmona.
