Abstract
- Media accountability in Australia and New Zealand rests on a framework that has much in common with other advanced Western nations. This framework extends from political and legal instruments to self-regulation and monitoring. However, neither country’s system is perfect, and Australia’s form of media accountability, in particular, has some serious flaws. After the catastrophe of the COVID-19 pandemic, the fate of the various forms of accountability existing in Australian and New Zealand journalism is very much an open question.
