Continuous condition assessment of highway bridges using field monitoring

The ageing and deterioration of highway bridges can have serious consequences in terms of reduced safety and serviceability. The objectives of this paper are to present an approach for the structural health monitoring of concrete bridge structures; and to demonstrate the effective use of field monitoring data for the updating of service life prediction models, which accuracy can be significantly improved. A case study on a major highway bridge is also presented and used to illustrate the approach.
