Activation techniques of working with dementia diseases persons

Abstract

The bachelor thesis deals with the use of activation techniques in working with people with dementia. The first part is devoted to the topic of dementia, its definition, types of dementia and individual stages of Alzheimer's disease. Another part describes the basic needs of a person and the needs of a sick person. The last and main part deals with the activation techniques in the social work with people with dementia and answers the question how the action of activation techniques meet the needs of the human being. Activation techniques are divided into three groups, depending on for which human abilities are most effective. These are the mental, physical and sensory capacities of human. The group of techniques for activating mental capabilities include cognitive rehabilitation, reminiscence therapy, and biography.Physical activation techniques include animotherapy, expression therapy, ergotherapy and kinesiotherapy. The group of techniques for activating sensory capabilities include, for example, aromatherapy and basal stimulation. The aim of this work is to show the importance of individual techniques in work as an essential supplement to the pharmacological treatment of clients with dementia and also to examine whether activation techniques can satisfy all human needs.
