Abstract

This stage production included readings of contemporaneous newspaper articles about Denim Day in 1979 and clips from the Denim Day 40th Anniversary Oral History Collection. It features stories from some of the original members of the Gay Student Alliance who were involved in planning the first Gay Awareness Week at Virginia Tech, which included Denim Day. Andrew Alvarez went by the name George L. Alvarez while at Virginia Tech. in the recording, articles are read in which George E. Alvarez complains of being mistaken for George L. Alvarez on multiple occasions. Ironically, while preparing the video clips for this production, the same mistake was made and the title cards for Andrew Alvarez's clips indicate that he is an Accounting graduate from the class of 1980. In fact Andrew was part of the International Studies program before transferring to Berkeley. The Accounting credit actually belongs to George E. Alvarez. Our apologies.
