Abstract

Introduction: the electrocardiogram has many indications in general practice. The aim of our study is to assess the ability of general practitioners in France to recognize electrocardiographic abnormalities. Methods: we conducted a descriptive, quantitative study, using a questionnaire, open to all physicians registered as generalists and practicing in France in 2018. General information was requested and then 16 ECG were presented. Results: 227 physicians in 51 departments responded. Physicians' activity patterns were divided into three groups: 77 (34%) physicians practiced exclusively in private practice. 95 (42%) made home visits. 55 (24%) had a hospital activity. There is no difference in level when comparing the 3 groups with each other (p = 0.097). 67.6% of the diagnoses were found.
