Adaptive Reuse of Space and accessibility in historical buildings, Edirne Ekmekçizade Ahmet Pasha Caravanserai investigation

Tarihi yapıların yeniden kullanımı kültürel mirasımız olan bu yapıları korumanın en etkili yöntemlerinden biridir. Bu çalışmada yeniden kullanımda yeni işlevin seçimini etkileyen faktörler, tarihi yapıların yeniden kullanılmasının ekonomik, kültürel, çevresel ve tarihsel nedenleri, yeni işlev sonrasında tarihi yapının tasarım kriterleri örnekler ile incelenmiştir. Tarihi yapıların yeniden kullanımı sırasında yapıyı korumak kadar önemli diğer bir olgu ise yapıya verilen yeni işlevin yapıya uygunluğu ve yeni kullanıcıların mekânsal konforunun sağlanabilmesidir. Tarihi yapıların kamusal işlevler ile yeniden kullanımı sonrasında bu yapıların herkes tarafından erişilebilir olması önem arz etmektedir. Bu çalışmada ayrıca tarihi yapılarda erişilebilirlik konusu da incelenmiştir. Bu çalışmada yeniden kullanım ve araştırılan tüm bu konular bağlamında; bugün Edirne ilinde bulunan develik bölümlerinden biri Edirne Devlet Tiyatrosu olarak yeniden işlevlendirilen Ayşekadın mevkiinde yer alan Edirne Ekmekçizade Ahmet Paşa Kervansarayı yapısı mekânsal olarak incelenmiştir. Yapılan bu çalışma ile tarihi binanın geçmiş dönem aşamaları, yapının tiyatro salonu olarak kullanılan mekanının yeni işlevine uygunluğu ve işleve katılabilirliği, güncel mekân tasarımlarının kullanıcı gereksinimlerini karşılaması ve mekânın erişilebilirliği incelenmiştir. Aydınlatma, iklimlendirme, güvenlik, sirkülasyon alanları, binanın erişilebilirliği gibi işlevsel ve fiziksel analizler, tarihi yapı ve yeni eklerin uyumu üzerine estetik analizlerden derlenmiş bir anket hazırlanmıştır. Yapı incelemesinde; yerinde gözlemlerden ve tiyatro salonunun 100 kullanıcısı ile yapılan bu analizlerin yer aldığı kullanım sürecinde değerlendirme anketinden yararlanılmış, toplanan bu veriler ışığında olumlu olumsuz yanların değerlendirmesi yapılıp öneriler sunulmuştur. Çalışmanın amacı; kültürel mirasımızı koruma bilincini, yeni işlev ve yeni kullanıcıların mekânsal konforunu sağlayarak mekânın yeniden kullanımını sağlamanın önemini vurgulamaktır. Mekânsal konfor sağlandığı sürece yapı bu işlev ile kullanılmaya devam edecek, dolayısı ile yapının korunması da sürdürülebilir olacaktır. The adaptive reuse of historical buildings is one of the most effective methods of preserving these structures, which are our cultural heritage. In this study, the factors affecting the selection of the new function in reuse, the economic, cultural, environmental, and historical reasons for the reuse of historical buildings, and the design criteria of the historical building after the new function were examined with examples. Another phenomenon as important as preserving the building during the reuse of historical buildings is the suitability of the new function given to the building and the spatial comfort of new users. After the reuse of historical buildings with public functions, it is important that these buildings are accessible to everyone. In this study, the issue of accessibility in historical buildings was also examined. In this study, in the context of adaptive reuse and all these researched issues; The structure of Edirne Ekmekçizade Ahmet Pasha Caravanserai, located in the Ayşe Kadin district in Edirne today, and its one of the spaces which were re-use as the Edirne State Theatre Saloon, was spatially examined. With this study, the previous phases of the historical building, the suitability of the space used as the theater to the building with its new function and its participation in the function, the meeting of the user needs of the current space designs, and the accessibility of the space were examined. Functional and physical analyzes such as lighting, air conditioning, security, circulation areas, accessibility of the building, aesthetic analyzes on the harmony of the historical building, and new annexes were compiled, and a questionnaire was prepared. In the building examination, on-site observations and an evaluation questionnaire were used in the usage process, which included these analyzes with 100 users of the theater, and in the light of these collected data, positive and negative aspects were evaluated, and suggestions were presented. The purpose of the study; is to emphasize the importance of reusing the space by providing the awareness of protecting our cultural heritage, the new function, and the spatial comfort of new users. As long as spatial comfort is provided, the building will continue to be used with this function, so the preservation of the building will be sustainable.
