Dones d’aigua al Pirineu

La dona d’aigua és un personatge pertanyent a la mitologia catalana amb una gran tradició en la literatura popular dels Països Catalans. Analitzar la seva presència al territori del Pirineu resulta d’especial interès per la confluència de cultures i llengües que hi trobem. Aquest element multicultural provoca que a cada localitat les llegendes sobre dones d’aigua presentin característiques diferents, tant pel que fa al seu aspecte físic i psíquic, com respecte a l’hàbitat i als motius temàtics de les seves llegendes. En aquest article s’analitza la tradició popular lligada a la figura de la dona d’aigua al territori pirinenc a través de tres llegendes, cadascuna pertanyent a una de les regions de parla catalana de la serralada. L’objectiu és mostrar les similituds i diferències que hi ha entre elles en relació al context social i històric de cada comunitat. Al mateix temps, es pretén reflexionar sobre els missatges morals que transmeten i el rol que ocupen en la construcció cultural i identitària de la societat. The dona d’aigua (water women) is a character that belongs to Catalan mythology with a long tradition in the popular literature of the Catalan Countries. Analysing their presence in the Pyrenees is of particular interest given the confluence of cultures and languages that we can find there. This multicultural element leads to the fact that in each place, the legends about dones d’aigua present different characteristics, both in relation to their physical and psychological appearance, their habitat and the thematic motifs of their legends. To illustrate this, this article analyses the popular tradition linked to the figure of the dona d’aigua in the Pyrenean territory through three legends, each one belonging to one of the Catalan-speaking regions of the mountain range. The aim is to show the similarities and differences between them in relation to the social and historical context of each community. At the same time, the aim is to reflect on the moral messages they transmit and the role they play in the cultural and identitary construction of society.
