Abstract
This article aims to explore the trajectories of socialization to computer science and self-directed learning of amateur programming. How can we understand the involvement in this technical and scientific practice? What are the social factors behind the emergence of a taste for this practice, and how does it fit in with the scholastic form of education? The presented findings aim at answering these questions by analyzing the individual trajectories of self-trained young people who have developed an 'expert' appropriation of computers and code. Firstly, the article explains the family context and the horizontal sociability that are likely to shape and reinforce the practice. Secondly, it analyzes the relationship with knowledge of the teenagers in order to highlight the ways in which those activities compete with school-based learning. Based on the observations of unequal capabilities for the articulation of school and extracurricular skills, the last part proposes ways of considering the recomposition of computer science appropriations according to the choices and ambitions of adolescents in terms of orientation.
