[A girl with a lacunar skull]

Following trauma, an X-ray was made of the head of a 5-year-old mentally impaired girl. A lacunar skull ('Lückenschädel') was seen, which was a coincidental finding. A lacunar skull develops when the fetal skull is poorly ossificated, probably due to a lack of distention of the cerebral ventricles.
