Abstract: The physical properties of aerosols are reviewed. The physiological basis of inhalation therapy is then briefly reviewed together with the aerosol devices currently available and the therapeutic uses of inhaled drugs, focusing on the treatment of parenchymal lung diseases and extra respiratory disorders. Finally, new perspectives for inhalation therapy are examined.
