Cloud processing and weeklong ageing affect biomass burning aerosol properties over the south-eastern Atlantic

The chemical, physical and optical properties of biomass burning aerosols are substantially altered during plume transport from Southern Africa over the southeast Atlantic, which leads to fewer but more absorptive aerosols in the marine boundary layer, according to airborne observations.
