Abstract

Aim. To study the prevalence of hypotension (HoTN) with an unfavorable prognosis in populations of the Russian Federation and the United States of America in a thirty-year perspective.Material and methods. We used data from Russian population-based studies performed in 1975-1982 at the now-familiar National Medical Research Center for Therapy and Preventive Medicine, and the study Epidemiology of Cardiovascular Diseases and their Risk Factors in Regions of Russian Federation (ESSE-RF) in 2012-2014. A comparison was made with data from studies of US population of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES): NHANES II (1976-1980) and Continuous NHANES (2007-2012). Age, sex, systolic and diastolic blood pressure were analyzed. The proportion of persons with HoTN (prevalence) was calculated in men and women of five age groups using the original HoTN criterion.
