Abstract

Specific training and professional development on sustainability and the 2030 Agenda have become increasingly important for librarians: as requested by IFLA and AIB, they can contribute to the dissemination and implementation of the Agenda. Making libraries more sustainable, developing collections on sustainability, organizing informational and educational activities, taking an active part in the Agenda monitoring, involving youth, and promoting interactive tools are just some of the actions that librarians should carry out. The librarians who manage information and training activities may be especially involved, as they can promote ecological awareness regarding both individual choices and behaviours for collective well-being. In-depth training and continuing professional development are indeed necessary to librarians. Specific skills can be acquired also through courses, such as the one by AIB Emilia-Romagna, aimed at putting into practice the information, motivations and examples provided, and at concurring this way to the 2030 Agenda implementation.
