In recent years, dry eye syndrome has attracted an increasing attention from ophthalmologists all over the world. This is largely due to the prevalence of the disease: the average number of people suffering from the disease is 14--15% of the adult population of the developed countries and up to 45% of patients first visiting ophthalmologist [2].
