Abstract

Traumatic panniculitis (TP) refers to the changes in subcutaneous fat related to physical or chemical agents. It is a self-limiting disease, which only requires symptomatic treatment. At present, TP has been rarely reported at home and abroad. Clinical manifestations of TP are nonspecific. In this article, a 45-year-old female patient with TP was reported. She presented with skin redness, swelling, fever and pain with unknown causes, accompanied by high fever. She had acute onset and evident systematic symptoms. Pathological examination of subcutaneous tissues at the lesion site revealed the necrotic adipose tissues, and collagen fibers and fibroblasts were seen among the interlobular septa. She was initially diagnosed with TP. After comprehensive examination, the pathogenesis was gradually excluded and the diagnosis of TP was finally confirmed. This case prompts that for skin infectious necrosis with unknown cause, histopathological biopsy can be promptly performed to validate the diagnosis. Symptomatic treatment should be actively delivered to delay the disease progression and mitigate the pain of TP patients.
