Ciencias sociales y modernización universitaria. La introducción del planeamiento universitario en la Universidad de la República en Uruguay en la década de 1960

The article aims to understand how a convergence occurred in Uruguay throughout the 1960s between the efforts to modernize the social sciences and the discussion of university modernization at Universidad de la República. The notion of “modernization" used recovers the meanings attributed to it by the protagonists of these processes. The article seeks to clarify the ideas that guided these modernizing programs, their agendas, their agents and the institutional forms they adopted. It emphasizes the existence of alliances based on convergences of ideas, but also of interests and opportunities in a limited academic environment such as Uruguay. To this end, the network of interpersonal links that facilitated the cooperation between actors with different professional careers and party affiliations is shown.
