Abstract

The cultural and environmental diversity of Africa has favoured the emergence of many patterns of adoption of pastoralism, patterns that still remain poorly understood. This paper presents an overview of all archaeozoological and palaeogenetical data currently available and tries to bring out general conclusions on the beginning of herding and its impact on the societies that have lived in the different parts of the continent during the Holocene.
