Abstract

The main findings of this study investigating 1143 illegibilities which interfered with reading thehandwriting of learners of Arabic as a foreign language are reported. The results indicated 50.9% , 415 ofwhich is caused by asmin and dots, are connected with letter misformation, and 19.6% connected withgeneral writing characteristics. The implication of the results is a change of emphasis in the teachingmethods of handwriting, from being only decorative and attractive in appearance .to becoming mostly leg~ible and readable.
